Bad day for the poultry

Today was a rough day on the farm if you were a bird.
First thing this morning, we went out and found our big Tom Turkey with a broken wing.
It was a compound break, bone sticking out and all. (really gross).
The end of his wing was just dangling there by a thin piece of tissue.

This is where The hard part came in.
I had to cut off the dangling part of his wing!!
NOT a fun job! It took me several min to get up the courage to cut off this birds wing!.

He lost quite a bit of blood, but I sprayed styptic powder on the wound to stop the bleeding, then wound spray, dressed the wound, and bandaged the hurt wing to his body.

If the blood loss/shock doesn't kill him, I think he'll heal up fine and have his flying capabilities gone to boot!

After the Turkey emergency, what does my FAVORITE Americana hen (green egg layer) do?
She decides to go into the Great Dane pen.!

Luckily I was still outside and got to her, but not before she got a huge gaping hole in her chest! Geesh another wound to /clean/dress, and another caged used for a bird hospital.

It was quite a day!
